A Great Not-so-new Review

Long and Short Review of Spare Dick
Sometimes things slip through the cracks when life gets busy. Between teaching and also being a full time student, I managed to miss a really great review from LASR. Since one of my New Year's resolutions is to do a better job paying attention to the promotion and business side of my writing career rather than simply creating, I wanted to share this.

Happy New Year. This certainly brightened mine on a very cold Saturday morning!

RWA 2013: Top Ten Things I learned

10.  “Downtime” is a figment of your imagination.
9.   Big rooms are cold. Little rooms are hot. Dress for both.
8.      The shoes that were so comfortable when you tried them on before conference magically no longer fit right.
7.      5 city blocks are impossibly long when you’re wearing anything other than walking shoes.
6.      There’s a reason I walk on tracks…it’s hard to stare at guys’ butts without falling off a treadmill.
5.      Bring tissue to the lunches because everyone will cry….laugh…cry…you get the drift.
4.      If there’s a workshop you really want to attend—everyone else does too. Get there early.
3.      No matter how big the tote bag you left your room with is, it’s not big enough to carry everything you will pick up, so bring a spare.
2.      Like locusts on crops, women can strip a publisher’s book signing within minutes.

And.... the number one thing:

           Don’t worry about how much the conference fee is, you’ll bring back enough free books to offset the cost…really…I did…and I got to a couple of books signings that had already been stripped by herds of voracious readers.

Release Day!

I am so excited to have my first book with Ellora's Cave releasing today! Spare Dick is the story of Jill and Kevin Ramsey, and Kevin's partner Adam Heller. Jill and Kevin are high school sweethearts who've been married for almost twelve years. They want to add another man to their bed. The problem is, Jill doesn't want it to be someone they already know, and Kevin can't imagine bringing a stranger into their sex life. Kevin's new partner Adam seems like the perfect solution until everything goes to Hell.
Here's an excerpt: (Warning -- it's intended for adults!)

“So you’ve sucked somebody’s dick before?” Kevin couldn’t quite believe he was even having this conversation. Even more, he couldn’t believe he started to swell inside his slacks.

“Sucked, been sucked. Best blow job I ever had was from a former pro-football player. Hell, Kevin, you must know there are private clubs around North Carolina where you can do it all. You could go to one out of town. It would take off the pressure…”

“No. We talked about that. We’re not interested in swapping or anything and we’re not interested in having another woman in with us.”

Hell raised his brows. “Come on.”

Kevin shook his head. “No, seriously. I want her. I want to see other men wanting her too.”

“Then, let me say it again. What about me?”

Find Your Wilde Side

My upcoming release, Spare Dick, is all about fulfilling fantasies. In this story, that comes with some pitfalls. In real life, I think the same thing applies. There is a reason our fantasies are fantasies. Sometimes not all of what we imagine in our wildest moments are meant to be fulfilled. Fantasies serve their purpose in our minds, maybe even shared with a lover, but bringing them to fruition isn't always what's best.

That desire to experience the unknown either in our reading or in a playful way is a healthy outlet, a stress reliever. It can be fun and stimulating to share fantasies. I often imagine what if would be like to jump out of an airplane and experience that rush of free falling through the sky. The reality is I nearly hyperventilate trying to jump off a three-meter diving board. Just thinking about it right now is making me nervous. So the whole skydiving fantasy is something I think I'll keep as just that...a fantasy.

Kevin and Jill take their fantasy of adding another man in their bed from dream to reality. The results are hot! But the aftermath also rocks the foundation of their marriage. Check out Spare Dick when it releases on Wednesday, May 8 to find out how they manage to work things out.
